100% the union knew about the LOB plan from the very beginning.

Someone on mannin line today, seemed very knowledgeable but didn’t get name basically saying the criticism of steam packet is ridiculous, the fact IOMG haven’t been involved with new boat meant it was delivered on budget compared to Scottish government being £220m over and massive delays, also the MHKs jumping on bandwagon should speak to steam packet rather than just going on radio etc.

Yes they did. And it’s been a running sore in industrial relations since then.

The officers, in particular, have raised all sorts of things they said were deficient in the design, been ignored and are now saying “I told you so”.

Yes. A lot of brinkmanship going on.

I read Callister’s piece on the meeting between Chief Minister, Treasury Minister, Chairman and Managing Director.

There was only one message that should have been taken to that meeting, and that was “arbitrate now”.

Its also politically inept of Mr Cannan and Dr Allinson to meet management and not the officers.

you would have thought this work prior to re certification  could have been carried out while she was in Cammel lairds so she met Marpol

That was for the anchor damage repair.

She’ll have to go in again if she’s to be the relief boat when Mx goes in for check up.

I went through Liverpool pier head a few weeks ago, in the check-in desk room there's a cutaway schematic drawing of Mxn. The top two (I think) decks are quite clearly shown as crew accommodation.

The implications of this are already starting to hit businesses.

Parts and supplies coming in late.  Staff sitting around in the morning doing nothing. Customers waiting.

It’s bad news all round.  Sack them and employ people who want to work.

(cue confused reactions form cuey and fool and his money - have they ever been seen in the same room? )

He doesn’t actually deny that there’s a charter agreement. Just that it’s not going now when needed here.

Previous charters, and before that sub charters, were always on the basis that SPCo use had priority and she could be brought back on 24 hours notice.

More fool them then if it is not going to be used???

Fit the staff to the boat or the service to the Island???

Fake news says steam packet

Of course they do? Time line shows it to be unlikely but a good headline for the BBC, a bad headline for the SP??? Who knows if the SP were not  in negotiations prior to OUR problems???

No doubt Alf and Alex will sort it out!!!

It's not realistically going to happen, is it?

For one thing you can't give the impression to the union that all they have to do is kick up an unholy stink and the government will come racing in and tell the management to settle. The political dimension is always the danger with nationalised or pseudo-nationalised industries.

The main issue though, and the reason it cannot possibly go to arbitration, is that the business model is now settled by the fact of having purchased a £78m vessel designed to operate in this mode. This is a fact of life, so they simply cannot afford to back down. It'll have to be settled by monetary means.

Politics.

To paraphrase, the DEFA say the problem of empty shelves, supply problems are nothing to do with SP but simply the 'weather' ???

Claire Barber, the DEFA Minister has issued this missive, Barber is the MHK for East Dglas, a left of centre constituency, yet she thinks this statement will endear her to her voters!!!

She issues this statement despite Cannan and Allinson are talking to the SP trying to resolve the problem!

Ministers cannot issue a statement without Comin approval, has she overstepped her position or is this a Comin attempt to balance the Govts point of view??? Neither pro SP or Pro the staff???
