Steam Packet Warns Of Disruption To Sailings

So has the Steampacket announced why Manxman failed to sail last night?
Maybe if there was a little more communication and transparency from SP, people might be a bit more understanding and sympathetic.

Also why is the Ben fully crewed and engines started every day, if it is never called upon to step in when the Manxman fails?

where is Arrow and why is that not now used for freight when the Manxman fails?

Questions Questions Questions, you should know that any government department(arms length or otherwise)do not have to give answers to the plebs. They bought a pup, why am I not surprised. How many of the movers and shakers got a trip out to the titty bars and other delights of Korea.

Has the Manxman gone tech again, down to 6.5 Kts in the lune deep off Fleetwood.

just picking up a pilot.

Probably a master that hasn't yet got the equivalent of his pilot's licence to enter and manoeuvre in Heysham Port?

And still the silence over what the technical issue/s is/were/are and whether it/they has/have been fixed, is deafening.

Are these all myths that cannot be busted?

It needs to be kept warm and engines run up to insure critical systems are running and lubrication of engine parts and systems.  Just like leaving a car for long periods, things get cold and damp, leaks appear and corrosion sets in.

The Steam Packet do not own the harbour.  It is available for use by any Irish Sea user.  As such the boat needs to able to be moved to another berth, or moved out to sea as, when and if required.  For this reason they need crew onboard 24/7 as it's not just a case of turning a key in an ignition switch to get the engines running.

Do they have a kick-start or starting handle?😁

So again…..Why is the Ben not ready to step in when the Manxman fails to sail? It has crew and engines are ready to sail.

They send a little Manx orphan down with a pull chord and they wrap it round the prop shaft.  He is then pulled up quickly by a bit of twine wrapped round his foot - in-turn, rotating the shaft and starting the engine.  The same is done the other side when they have been dried out and fed a bowl of gruel.

It won't have food and drink onboard.  It will have engineering crew only.  It takes time to stock up and swap general crew about and set up tills, the bars, food areas, toilets, cabins, check pubic areas etc.  This would probably done and the boat ready after what ever was wrong with the other boat was sorted.

It does not explain why the Ben cannot be used to catch up on delayed freight and general cargo shipping though.  Bringing in vital supplies and things that keep people in employment and income.

The Ben can't be used due to the speed restriction John mentioned earlier in the thread. 7kt limit so no use for passenger backup

What speed restriction does the Ben have and why?

Bigger, heavier, older ships going around the Irish Sea than the Ben.  Seems like bollocks to me.
