Its fair game. Investment companies have been encourage to plough millions into privatised business (at their risk) with promises of rich returns. Now we are all moaning that they have made money.

What millions did Mcquarie plough into the private SPCo in order to reap their rich returns?

Nobody took it on as a going concern.

Which means an almost total reliance on imports. Noa excluded of course.

We bake our own bread (chuck the ingredients in the breadmaker, switch it on, walk away...) and found that Laxey Mills flour was the best we ever used. With no Shoprite will Tesco, with their reputation of commanding the lowest possible buying in prices, be stocking Laxey Mills product?

AFAIK, it wasn't put up for sale, unless it was touted around privately.

This does not make sense. The Steam Packet has a waiver from the Isle of Man Ship Registry and UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and therefore is unlimited in UK waters but still limited in Manx waters.

Doesn't quite match up with what @John Wright implied many times.

So whose waiver do we need in Manx waters?  We already have a Manx ship registry waiver

Only for maneuvering in local port (as I read it).

We (IoM) are still applying restrictions to our own ship in our own waters, it is subject to waiver everywhere else.

We have gone truly mad....

For in harbour only. That’s been in place since almost day 1 of the restriction. We now have UK waters and UK harbour permission. The logical next step is the Manx waters waiver.

Essential services shouldn't be in private ownership full stop. The only thing worse is for them to be in public ownership but run as if they weren't, the worst of both worlds!

Shame governments are so poor at running businesses.

Couldn't make it up. Unless it's an ultra smart plan for selling her...... 😀

"The unacceptable face of capitalism" as Edward Heath accidentally put it when he was struggling to read his Downing Street brief due to a hatred of wearing his glasses...

Face or facet. The thrust of the meaning is the same. Aimed at Lonrho's Tiny Rowland. If true, Heath clearly didn't write the speech himself or he would have known, glasses or not.

I have no idea. But you don't own half a company without having to buy it

With (usually) 30% of the voting rights you have to make an offer but I don't think the other shareholders have to sell. At 50% it's a mandatory offer.

Could be different of course with companies on the rock.
