Which is exactly why they should run it as a public service and stop messing about trying to run it as a business.

The steam packet is a highly profitable business £11m in 2022 and this is the reason it should continue as an arm’s length business and not be run at a loss like busvannin a public service.

That's because it was run by venture capitalists who were running it into the ground.

Even an idiot like you must see that if you want a sustainable service you can't continue to rape it for every penny you can.

Why do you think the previous owner sold when it was so profitable?

WTF are you talking about? It made a profit when it was run by the previous owners and it’s making a profit now , if it was run by government or idiots like you it would soon be loss making with daft ideas like daily trips to Orkney or similar and free fares for pensioners!!

It is a business. It needs business discipline or else it becomes as flabby as the civil service. Is that what you are advocating?

Because they couldn't sustain the debt it was carrying, like the previous owners before them. Thanks to Macquarie and their ilk.

Who's to say that it isn't being run as a public service Just all kept behind the scenes. The treasury is the shareholder, the shot caller.

The 'arms length business is juust to absolve the Govt of blame?

It's a public service, there's no reason why it can't be run efficiently as such. You don't have to look too far away to see the mess business invariably makes of public service.

And how long would it have been making a profit if we hadn't bailed it out with a new ship etc? You really are a naive imbecile.

You’ve absolutely no idea, obviously a career public servant 😂 strange how no one ever agrees with you!

In theory there's no reason why it can't be, but it never is. The Isle of Man is the perfect place to observe that public service and efficiency do not belong in the same sentence. I fervently wish it were otherwise, but it simply isn't.
