The photo earlier in the thread shows that she was pranged on the left hand side, and this most recent photo shows she was pranged on the other side. So she was double pranged. I will let you work out a suitable abbreviation.

if you mean this picture, damage is on starboard side (that's righthand side when facing the pointy end to you) and the later pictures from Frank show inspection on the same side.

All this is just media hype by the shite local media. None of this is new. I was stuck for 6 hours mid 90s due to rough weather in the Mersey. Ships have collided (sorry, allided) with things for years, grounded on sandbanks etc. It was never mentioned. Dover gets closed each year when winds are over a certain speed - bet that's never made a big thing of. The obsession here is bizarre.

Now I'm starting to worry.  We've reached the "Nothing to see here" stage.

If the local shipping company is having problems, then the local media are entitled to report that fact and try to find out the reasons.  These things have often happened before and been reported before.

But there's wider issues at stake.  We are discussing a new docking facility in Liverpool (and shortly in Douglas) and a relatively new boat.  If these are experiencing systemic problems beyond the expected level of those caused by normal usage, those problems which may be related to poor design which will need to be improved in some way.  Lessons can't be learned if failure isn't admitted.

Poor design of what? The boat? The dodgy gangway? The landing stage? Heysham? Or all of the above?

Systemic sound a bit strong to me.

Could be that the 'allision' was human error. I mean it's been docking there fine for nearly a year and in much worse conditions. As JW has pointed out any times there are bigger boats docking there without issue. Not really sure what bit you are alluding to. The manxman hasn't docked at Liverpool in anger has it... I mean in service.

Must be serious, Douglas lifeboat standing by. Incase they need to off load 958 pax quickly.

Why, did they not make the crossing without a lifeboat escort?  Am sure they could squeeze 958 pax on that lifeboat.  More likely it was standing by for the inspection boat.

What problems are systemic? The Ben struck the harbour in Heysham and Douglas on more than one occasion. As did the King Orry in strong winds. The river Mersey gets rather choppy in strong NW winds, which as I stated earlier meant I spent 6 hours waiting to disembark about 30 years ago. None of this is new.
