The bibliographical note in 'the green book' says there have been 5 or 6 changes, its all a bit 'up someone else's own arse' for me, just read the poem and take from it what you will, all that other stuff is poncy bollocks - like opera singing and that.

 

And and and imho the old words were better, the change in Old John was rubbish! Pfft! ;)

Are you suggesting that Brown's published poems were expurgated ? I didn't know that. Were they a bit too 'folksy' for established tastes ?

I think they just left out the one that starts:

 

There was a young lady from Peel,

Who said that she wanted to feel....

 

Don't know how the rest of it went, but I'm sure someone can help?
