The reality is very different It really isn’t Derek, maybe it was when you were here but it’s not now. You don’t see them all year, then TT comes round and suddenly every copper has a speed gun in hand and they pretend to care about speed limits that are consistently broken the rest of the year, do they actually care about road safety or not? 2
P.K.
Used to see them quite frequently approaching Ballasalla at the Whitestone end. Not so much now the roundabout is finished. Do they use TruCam II ? https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-9013677/Police-forces-begin-using-generation-speed-guns-UK-roads.html
Shake me up Judy
For two weeks of the year some of them get to be rock and roll coppers. Plenty of overtime, fast cars and nice toys, high adrenaline and quick response. 'We're the Sweeney son and we haven't 'ad our dinner' The police used to 'calm' the visiting fans, like a sensible parent. Now they just wind them up.

It's the police's job to be the visible authority, set a tone, and to be seen. Not lying on the ground in ambush. Get a grip IOM Constabulary. Every T.T. some of them go daft and forget the job. You need to get a sense of humour, it was clearly just a bit of fun, the cops do a pretty good job all things considered.

Thats called lack of experience , and if the fans do kick off they will soon realise how exposed the police are , the old time bobbies had a great relationship with the biker fans , and used that policing skill to maintain order and mutual respect ,
hissingsid
No one cares about speeding for fifty weeks of the year the police do not bother but come TT and they are all over like a rash they should be out for the rest of the year instead of posting stupid condescending remarks on Facebook.
0bserver
Passed a couple of cyclists up there this morning. Police must have been too busy posting on social media. They were two abreast though so nice and safe.

That just means it came out of two different budgets! Tenner each.

hampsterkahn
Society gets the criminals it deserves. A police force also reflects society, but we should not just get the police we deserve, we should be able to have the force we insist on. If you have been around for a while, you will have learnt that individuals who are “the Police”are very different. There is not a “generic” policeman/woman any more than other profession. They range from the extraordinarily decent and humane, who from my experience, are by far the majority, through the reasonably fair , to the ponderous and prejudiced, on to an very small, but evil minority. - A mirror of us all, really.

Because they are, they need to be considerably better than the average member of the public. And often aren't, because it's a profession that attracts people who fancy themselves as bullies (and people who want to do good, but you only need a handful of the former for it to create a large problem).
