Hillsborough Report Released

When Skies Are Grey

Oh dear....not a great day for the South Yorkshire Police force.....

"The new evidence that we're presented with today makes clear in my view that these families have suffered a double injustice: the injustice of the appalling events, the failure of the state to protect their loved ones, and the indefensible wait to get the truth, and then the injustice of the denigration of the deceased - that they were somehow at fault for their own deaths. So on behalf of the government, and indeed our country, I am profoundly sorry that this double injustice has been left uncorrected for so long."

Anyone who's seen Red Riding must view any Yorkshire Police force with disdain

Not seen those films, but also relevant about south Yorkshire police was the 'battle of Orgreave'. See linky.

Also would like to say , finally the truth is now out there and hopefully soon justice for the families.

A tragic cocktail of incompetent policing & inadequate stadia.

Margaret Thatcher, your Tory cronies & your right wing media ... For ****ing shame.

It was senior officers that 'corrected' the reports, not Maggie, don't go blaming her you moron

You have to remember the context. At that time football fans and miners were thugs, northerners were ignorant ill-educated ne'er do well trainee miners and football fans, and the police were honest bobbies. That was all despite some unwholesome truths emerging, at that time, about police corruption in porn and drug investigations, let alone the other biggies hitting the fan such as the various injustices on major terrorist and murder investigations. At the same time Maggie's economic policies had virtually laid waste to much of the north and Sheffield, particularly, was a sad and sorry city a year or so before this event.

I have to say the 80s were not a great time for the integrity of Britain and Maggie's policies were a great contributor to that. Possibly no worse than we have now, but the 80s shed a lot of scales from a great many people's eyes.

I can count four injustices there.
