Lonan3
"Isle of Man residents are being invited to join tomorrow (Tuesday) morning’s parade in Douglas to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Norway’s independence. The parade will assemble at the promenade War Memorial at 8.45am, leaving at 9am to make its way up Finch Road to the court piazza area. After speeches on behalf of the Manx hosts and Norwegian guests, the party will head for Douglas Town Hall at 10.00am, for coffee. " (From Manx radio) Wow! A meeting at the war memorial! A thrilling walk up Finch Road and then, to top it all, speeches from local dignitaries and unknown Norwegians! Party on!
slinkydevil
Isn't Finch road a bit of a building site at the moment? Can't they take them somewhere a bit nicer instead of a walk past some multistory carpark and a load of building works.

Mission
That would be a short walk on a long pier though, seeing as it's closed.
Lonan3
Finch Road is perfect. They can walk past the 'Wedding Cake,' tell the visitors how much tax-payers money they're spending on it, and everyone can have a reaaly good laugh!
Darth Vader
Why do the Norwegians want to celebrate their independance in someone elses country? The only ties with them is the fact that their ancestors invaded the IOM and unsuccessfully tried to take over, but celtic tradition and the language from a mother's breast survived. And the only recent tie we have with them is when Downie made a freebie trip to Norway with his DTI Ministry hat on some time ago. Mind you our Manx DTI would eat locust dung if it meant members of Tynwald jetting off around the world to obscure places where they are seen as demi Gods in the eyes of vine swinging monkeys. And this year a delegation of norwegians will guzzle and stuff themselves at the banquet in the evening of Tynwald day all at our expense like they do every year. Whale killing sponging b******s go home!
Grumble
The Vikings have been holidaying here for a thousand years or so Vader - at least none of them will stay behind this time! Mind you, pillage and plunder aint what it used to be...

Shuold only be in it for 2 weeks not a thousand years. Plus I hope it's not another bunch off damm retiree's wanting to sign up for a pension subsidy. What is it all about, this forging of unexistant ties to random places, it's freebies and jollies for some. That is it.

Tempus Fugit
I guess you lot don't go to Tynwald on July 5th either, just take it as a free day off work. Some people are actually patriotic and wear their national costume at least one day a year, I have been in Norway on 17th May and the processions go on for ages with all the school bands (many juniors included) and town bands playing. Maybe if we had fairly recently got independance we would celebrate too, methinks we take things for granted too much at times. Edit - added some webcam pix from last year and today oops, bmp too big, try jpg
