Decline In The Crime Rate

Many reasons are being cited for the fall in crime figures in the developed world, more secure cars, smart phones, tough policing etc.

The explanation may be quite simple, a decline in the number of people in the peak offending age range 14 to 25 years.

Someone born in 1993 would be 14 in 2007, there were around 660,000 births in the UK in 1993. But by 2013 the number of 14 year olds had declined to 608,000 meaning there were 52,000 fewer potential criminals over that six year period.

As the birth rate continues to decline, so should we experience corresponding drop in crime rates

A worrying trend for Daily Mail journalists
