the stinking enigma
Vx nerve agent used to kill him. It's almost like north korea want china to be put under pressure to disown them. Or be lumped in with them by association. Time for the arbiter of decency america to start the games
Chinahand
I think it might be the other way round there, Stinky - China took a tough line on North Korea after its recent nuclear and missile tests - Kim Jong-nam was under China's protection living in Macau. The North Koreans have sent a message to China that they don't care, and have attacked it claiming it is dancing to America's tune. Kim Jong-nam's killing was N.Korea putting up two fingers to China's disapproval of its nuclear and missile tests.
Tarne
Well, also China did a coal import ban with North Korea too, so that is a pain in the arse for them
TurricanII
If North Korean subjects are happy then fine. If they don't want the oppression or fear of being assassinated then there are enough of them for a coup - leave them to it. The assassinated chap seemed to have plenty of cash to spend. He doesn't seem to have been trying too hard to 'fix' North Korea. Rest of world should mind it's own business but formulate an agreement to monitor launches and effect swift destruction (as localised as is possible) to follow should North Korea start lobbing nukes. As a parent seeing other kids in a captive setting misbehaving, one might come up with a plan on what to do if there is an escalation. When the kids escalate e.g. to throw stones you swiftly enact the plan, alert their parents for example, and make sure the potential for harm is minimised. Tarne
I found a documentary I hadn't seen from 2008 from Vice, and the thing that was particularly jarring was the banquet at around the 11 minute mark. Laying out and serving all the empty tables for a "banquet that was happening later" whilst it was just them in there. https://www.vice.com/en_ca/article/vice-guide-to-north-korea-1-of-3 It really does remind me of when Yeltsin went to the US and was just in awe of a supermarket, and having his entire world view shattered. Those poor people, utterly brainwashed for the "socialist dream". I am hopeful the insanity that is Trump can do "something" about North Korea, where 11 previous presidents have failed. llap
I think they're finally playing poker with the wrong president. Trump has pressured China to enforce a red line on North Korea. US strategic interests are now being withdrawn back within the remit of the Munro Doctrine and focused on the Pacific arena. What this will mean for the middle east, it's hard to predict. Public posturing aside, I think there is more and more strategic teamwork with Russia. Anyone interested in the future of the middle east and particularly those areas that surround Russia (or the world in general) should read The Fourth Political Theory by Dr Aleksandr Dugin. Russia is back, folks, and personally I wish them the best of luck.
