La_Dolce_Vita
No, Summerland was not built again from scratch. It was the same building but without the upper areas, i.e. the upper areas and ceiling which made it Summerland.
Vorta
It was a concrete fireproof monstrosity. It was never the same but better than it is now. A derelict site is no memorial.
Lonan3
An ideal site, I would have thought, for both a large memorial garden and a national library with, perhaps, a lecture hall.
La_Dolce_Vita
Unfortunately, a national library would be no good. Too far from the town centre.
credente
Space for adequate parking; served by horse and electric trams - add a decent bus service. The idea has merit - a place to combine the Tynwald and Manx Museum libraries, perhaps and free up space in their buildings.
La_Dolce_Vita
I just can't see it as being viable. We can discount electric trams and horse trams, as people won't really be using them for a trip to the library. You need to make a library as accessible as possible given its importance. But yes, on the other hand it could be a great place to go if it had a cafe. But possibly too expensive to run.

You also need people who actually want to read books instead of rotting their brains in front of a television screen. That's 99% of the population who won't be interested in it. Vorta
I was wondering if this was rotting my brain but then forgot what I was wondering about.

MANANNAN
Bit late to suggest purely memorial use for the site, is it not? Bit like building some new offices on the site of the 911 Terrorist Attack, them going bust, buildings lie derelict, eventually demolished. Then decide it would be disrespectful to build anything else there, and that it should be a memorial.

I'm just extremely good at multi-tasking. A lot of the time I'm actually posting from my phone in the middle of the countryside or to pass the time while on a bus. I spend the best part of the day in front of a book.
Lonan3
What are you going to do with it when you've finished colouring it in?

When they round to fitting it.
