Barrie Stevens
He is not the IOM representative in the UK Government. He has a constitutional liaison and advisory role in the UK Ministry of Justice. I recall when one of his predecessors came over to the Island and told the government to adopt Job Seekers Allowance or the reciprocal arrangement would end. The Island did not want to adopt Job Seekers Allowance. Lord McNally has shown an understanding of the Island's status and maybe straightened out a few "Sir Humphreys"...The real governmental links to the UK are The Lt Governor, The Chief Secretary and the Attorney General.... Barrie Stevens
His replacement is a QC, a Recorder (Judge), an Arbitrator, involved in looking at the compensation culture, human rights specialist....depends on his brief....The whole tendency for many years now has been to let the Isle of Man go its own way and put more distance between it and the UK and EU...Well that's what you wanted was it not? After all, the UK took away the VAT prop....Well that's what you wanted was it not? More independence and "stand alone"?
