2112
There will be fire galore in that building now. It will end up even more stagnant and unsalvagable and possibly uneconomical as the former outdoor swimming pool/fish farm/ruin across the bay. Whatever anyone proposes to do with it, Government will lead them a merry dance, planning too will mess them around - too intrusive, landscape, car parking .......... and that old favourite Manx National Heritage will stick their oar in. Still for the sake of a few extra car parking spaces, the whole area will end up a car park.
2112
Not too dodgy. LolOfficial Police announcement on FB says they are treating the fire as suspicious No shit .. Even if it's confirmed as Arson, there isn't a chance of the Manx Police catching the arsonists. With their track record of catching burglars ............... gettafa
Yep, living proof that corrective punishment works. The rebel lad as good as grew up to become a dyed in the wool establishment lacky, well paid and pensioned to boot. eta: If this one was arson, not saying it was but if it was, would the arsonist drive up to the site in a gaily painted pink car or whatever it was back then that snookered them. hagar the horrible
Is it possible that the building could have been used as a party venue by kids?
finlo
Is it possible that the building could have been used as a party venue by kids? More like the homeless, i had to go into a disused building in Port Erin about 10 years ago only to find about a dozen people living rough in there.
quilp
It was crammed full of asbestos, making it virtually unusable without investment in extraction to make it safe. The signs were everywhere.

Annoymouse
It was crammed full of asbestos, making it virtually unusable without investment in extraction to make it safe. The signs were everywhere. Could explain the strange almost plastic smell, but with asbestos being fire resistant its unlikely to have burnt through all of it, so it would now be more expensive to remove as the asbestos has been exposed? The building use to be extensively plumbed with plastic piping for transferring sea water around to supply fish tanks used for experiments. There may also have been plastic fish tanks still in the building.
