WTF
One wonders of this was the place NOT mentioned in a recent press release about people entering a closed, empty building and disturbing asbestos. The release went to great pains not to mention which building it was .. But if it was, it was known it was insecure and been entered, so should have been bricked up to secure it properly. With todays penny pinching attitudes, insurance will probably just say 'tough shit' and not pay out. but the now even more unsafe site will get cleared and that will make getting planning permission ( now the existing building is taken out of consideration ) a little easier. x-in-man
It was the Gov policy to clear sites to make it easier(cheaper for their mates) to develop. Park Road School, the old prison etc ...oh wait, they are in Douglas.
2112
It was the Gov policy to clear sites to make it easier(cheaper for their mates) to develop. Park Road School, the old prison etc ...oh wait, they are in Douglas. What have these sites along with the old bus station on Lord Street got in common? All empty and will never be developed. Glenside Nursing Home demolished yet we are desperate for bed spaces, and despite spending over £8million, Salisbury Street home still hasn't received its first residents. The Park Road site plans look and sound wonderful but they won't materialise. The empty sites are merely land banks, or a Governmental parking site - free parking! You would have thought seeing as the construction industry is at rock bottom, a scheme to redevelop and use constructively would be iniatiated. Nursing Homes, Sheltered Schemes or Government retirement village are needed, not land banks for developers. Incidentally Port Erin has plenty of high end luxury apartments. doc.fixit
gov. ' looking to offload site'................reported today! OFFLOAD??...........maybe they should pro-actively try and sell it?.............it's a great site for a marine research laboratory...oh! ........I would think it has a good potential for development though if they can get their collective head out of their arses and try and do something beneficial for the residents instead of making profits for faceless investors........what? did I say something wrong?........ Guest
Ideal spot for a dry-stack boat storage operation. Refurbish the old breakwater and away we go !!
Donald Trumps
Maybe they should just build a car park for when visitors come to the beach in nice weather

TheTeapot
I think instead of looking to get the most money for the place they should sell it to the person/company who would get the best use out of it. If someone wants to build say, a watersports and fishing centre, with a cafe and hot showers and maybe even some hostel accommodation for scout or school groups or just travelling people in general then they should really consider virtually giving it away.

Would make a great location for a YHA.
Donald Trumps
Perhaps for summer use only, for the most part The weather down there can be absolutely horrendous during the winter
TheTeapot
Thinking about it a bit more if a developer really wanted to do something which would be of great use to everyone I'd even let them build 4 flats into it so that they could quickly some of their investment money back. x-in-man
It could be the Head Office for a maritime magazine ..... They'll get it cheaper, if not lease it for 999 years for a couple of quid a year.
Max Power
Deep Water Cruise Ship Terminal!!!! That is not as daft as it sounds. If the pier were reinstated to its full length, it would be possible.
gettafa
Over 100 years, the blocks will have settled by now to make a sound foundation. The Government should do something innovative and long term with the area. But hey, the easy route is Dandaraland. The money will keep the Island afloat for about 6 days or so after the reserves run out.
