Removing the ability for people to go back to their lives is going to make violence seem like a better option, not a worse one.

What "lives" are they going back to?

Gaza is a road to nowhere kept going by handouts.

Well, they used to have universities, hospitals, places of work. Now it's 2 million people held prisoner in a tiny strip of rubble. What do you think they're going to do?

You're on a road to disappointment if you're expecting a shred of empathy or humanity from this thread.

Lebanon and Syria have exactly the same problem which is lots of stateless people in refugee camps created by the Arab League.

The Gazans may have universities, hospitals etc but they're stateless as well. So they're going nowhere.

But when vermin use human shields it makes it more difficult to avoid civilian casualties.

Jinkies scoob, this comment has aged terribly, and it was pretty fucking stupid at the time...

Human. Shield.

Meanwhile: "Labour government says it will not pursue questions on court’s jurisdiction over Netanyahu and Gallant...The UK has dropped its opposition to an international arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, removing a key hurdle to one being issued and underlining the tougher stance being taken towards Israel by the new Labour government..." at last!

I don't like echo chambers and so am a little cautious when I find myself strongly agreeing with a political pundit.

I respect Niall Ferguson, I've enjoyed his books and listen to what he says and very much agree with what he is saying here, especially on the causes of the Hamas attack - Hamas was being isolated by the Abraham Accords between Israel and the Autocracies of the Middle East as they pragmatically moved closer together while ignoring the Palestinian issue, and so went noisy to bring the issue back into prominence.

I'd like to balance my understanding, anyone - Helix? - got any alternative analyses?

That is correct, however the time for driving the Jews out of Israel has long passed. Hamas and its predecessors should have been looking for ways to make things work.

They can no more drive the Jews from Israel than we can drive Islamists from Britain. Generationally they have a stake in the place.
