Tarne
What model are you looking for, just the standard read books one? Or the fancy watch movies and read books Kindle Fire? I was going to suggest mine, but I was going to say £60 - and I've just spotted brand new ones are now discounted to £59, so damn! http://www.amazon.co.uk/kindle-ereader-ebook-reader/dp/B007HCCOD0/
mbx
Look for one that is backlit. My wife, Mum and both in-laws all have paperwhites and love them. It's the first real "tech" that my over 70's mother has used and she loves it. Very easy on the eyes for reading and the bonus is that if you share a bed you don't have to leave a light on to read, thus keeping the other party awake. AcousticallyChallenged
Mbx is right, a paperwhite merits the premium it commands. The light is so useful, even in a lounge at night or other dimly lit rooms. Otherwise you do have to maneuver yourself towards the light. I had a Nook Glowlight which was a similar bit of kit and if it had been able to display my kindle books properly it would have been great. Slim
Also a big paperwhite fan. It is quite bright though, bright enough to piss the wife off when she's trying to get to sleep.
D.C.
Can't afford £60! Anyone willing to sell their old one for £20-30 when they upgrade to a newer one?

Slim, your eyes are much the same age as mine so surely can read a paperwhite at a third maximum brightness. If that level of light keeps her awake then I suggest buying her a blindfold (cue topic going off at a tangent)
