Cronky
Some news stories really are out of the ordinary. This piece about Scottish Education caught my eye: Shetland Islanders fight plan to force children to boarding school http://www.home-education.biz/forum/media/16876-shetland-islanders-fight-plan-to-force-children-to-boarding-school.html#post65221 Up to 112 children aged as young as 11 are set to be forcibly sent to boarding school under controversial plans by Shetland Islands council. The most radical proposal now under public consultation would see three junior high schools closed on the smaller islands by 2016, and pupils sent to board at Anderson high school on Shetland’s biggest island, Mainland. How the heck can the state, legally, force parents to send their children away to boarding school???
Tarne
Well, if that's where the only school is, that's where they'd have to go. It probably won't happen in the manner described, it's just being used as the worst case scenario in order to foster public opinion, which is good. Cronky
Looks like the Scottish Government has got itself into trouble with it's child policies: Legal fight starts over SNP 'state guardian for every child' http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/11221902/Legal-fight-starts-over-SNP-state-guardian-for-every-child.html James and Rhianwen McIntosh, of Bonnybridge, near Falkirk, were informed in April this year that their four children had been assigned named persons. The campaign said they were told the NHS wrote to them saying their children’s medical records would be passed to the named persons, who would also be informed if an appointment was missed. Speaking on the eve of the case coming to court, Colin Hart, NO2NP’s spokesman, said: “This is all about the fight to save families. Enormous issues are at stake. “What could be more important than the rights of mums and dads to bring up their children how they see fit, not being dictated to by the heavy-hand of meddling and interfering politicians and their army of taxpayer-funded state monitors?”. Sounds like the SNP harbouring ambitions of totalitarianism. Hopefully,a decent human rights lawyer will succeed in stopping this lunacy and the electorate put an end to any political supporters career.
