Chinahand
Is it not the case that Hubble is too close to bring Pluto into sharp focus ...? Surely not more of this shit ...? Sharpe focus, yes. Too close, No! Pluto is tiny - it is about 2370 km in diameter and it is 3 billion km away. It basically subtends a similar angular diameter to the star Betelgeuse. The nebular etc which Hubble has photographed subtend much much larger angles - they are faint, but in angular size far larger than Pluto. The Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebular is over 4 minutes of arc wide - Pluto is 0.06 seconds of arc wide - ie its image is 4000 times or so smaller on Hubbles sensors. As ever doing a bit of maths explains a lot.

Vulgarian
We sent a probe to the outer reaches of the solar system to send back data. It took nearly 10 years to get there but the images it sent back are beautiful, fascinating, stimulating, profound. We landed a craft on the surface of a comet that is a couple of miles across and hundreds of millions of miles away to find out more about the origins of our solar system. I really do feel sorry for people like Gerry and his chums whose thinking is so distorted that their response to these marvels is simple denial without reason. It's a shame that they cannot recognise their own problematic and distorted thinking for what it is, and that they may never be able to engage with these discoveries in any way. gerrydandridge
It's not a case of denial of facts and science, it's just "NASA says" is not quite enough for some of us, especially those that are aware of the history of the organization. I see many on here discussing religious blind faith, the NASA fans are no different, they release a grainy image, or a simulation of a craft landing on a distant comet and we all know it's a computer simulation, they admit it, we then take the event as factual, no questions just opened mouthed wonder and awe at the wonders of science. I just watched on sky news a simulation of it passing by Pluto, the majority of the viewers will think it real, never questioning how such image's have met their eyes. It's skilfully done, presenter speaks, then rendered simulation for the imagination, back to presenter, the magicians trick is complete. The pillars of creation picture is without a doubt stunning, but why is the faith in it's authenticity so unshakable amongst the believers.
