Addie
Admin, please delete if a duplicate. Some absolutely terrifying news coming out about this today. Co-pilot, alone in cockpit, locked cockpit door and calmly and deliberately crashed the 'plane. Other voices and banging on the cockpit door heard on the voice recorder. Horrific
Nom de plume
... the worst (and last) 12 minutes of those poor souls lives. Truly the most horrendous way to go.
woolley
Seems to be a growing trend. (unless of course it is a conspiracy by the big aircraft manufacturers and governments to shift the blame onto the airline staff)
war baby
German, 28 years old, 630 hours flying. All apparently normal. What a horrific story.
Sheldon
I thought it couldn't get any worse after finding out yesterday that 40 school kids had drawn lots for the 16 places available on the trip, but this is beyond horrific.

And they say fear of flying is irrational. Long favourable odds certainly, but irrational? Certainly not. Fear of small spiders is irrational. Mr. Sausages
Not if they're poisonous venomous. Passengers' screams heard on the voice recorder. All pretty horrific.
Tempus Fugit
too many theories and scenarios are being given or leaked as FACT when nobody will know the exact cause until they find the data recorder, there may be a very logical explanation, but very sad for all the families left behind
Addie
These details are coming from the Public Prosecutor so more than just a leak. It does appear at the moment that the sounds on the voice recorder are offering a lot of information. Those poor, poor souls.
Tarne
Yup, that's a bad one. Not unheard of for a flight crew member to crash a plane. It's what flight crew unions said could happen when they brought in the reinforced doors to the cockpit after 9/11.
HeliX
too many theories and scenarios are being given or leaked as FACT when nobody will know the exact cause until they find the data recorder, there may be a very logical explanation, but very sad for all the families left behind Er, the scenarios ARE from the data recorder. Captain went out of cabin to presumably go to the toilet. Co-pilot deliberately locked Captain out of cabin. Co-pilot adjusted Flight Management System to start descend. Co-pilot did not answer to calls from both the captain and Marseille ATC. Co-pilot was breathing until impact. Apparently passengers weren't heard on voice recorder until right before the impact. And logs from the autopilot: 09:30:52Z.386 MCP/FMC ALT: 38000 ft QNH: 1006.0 hPa 09:30:55Z.397 MCP/FMC ALT: 96 ft QNH: 1006.0 hPa So he locked the pilot out and disabled flight safety, and then set the autopilot to 96ft (the minimum it can be set to in that particular craft)
The Old Git
Er, the scenarios ARE from the data recorder. Don't want to be pedantic in such horrific circumstance, but I presume they're still looking for the data recorder? They found the cockpit voice recorder
somewhatdamaged
Truly horrific. Those poor children, how could anyone do such a thing. Brings me to tears just thinking about it What is truly frightening was how apparently "normal" this guy was.

mojomonkey
It is very sad, obviously it is massive news over here in Germany. A friend of mine knew one of the stewards onboard the flight, he is really messed up about it.
