When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I don't think people fully appreciate just how bold and revolutionary the American War of Independence was or just how radical the Declaration of Independence and its advocacy of equality was. They were fighting against monarchism and tyranny to found a republic of the people, by the people, for the people. What a great inspiration to the rest of the world. I long for the day when the Isle of Man will become an independent republic. I urge everyone to read the Declaration of Independence; they might discover a lot of grievances which led to the American War of Independence very familiar in our own current situation. Two examples that immediately stick out: He [George III] has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance. For imposing taxes on us without our consent. I am thankful for them helping us to defeat Nazism and Communism, two hideous and disgusting ideologies which shackled millions or billions of people under tyranny. God bless America!
