Circuit of Wales

It all started out so well. Some motor bike enthusiasts wanted to build a race track in Wales. I was all for the idea, because let's face it, it could prove a greater attraction than the TT, with a consequent reduction in visitor numbers. Which would in turn reduce the level of inconvenience that we have to suffer on the Island.

I have often accused the motorcycle fraternity of being thoroughly selfish, and wanting something for nothing. Well even I was surprised to read that instead of buying the 600 acres of land that they need to build this circuit, they are asking permission to 'take over' 600 acres of common land.

So it's the usual story - give us what we want, and then bugger off you lot.

I still don't think it will happen but if it does then it has the potential to create up to 6000 new jobs and bring £45 milllion into the local economy per annum. You also neglected to mention that there is an agreement in place with those affected by the loss of this common land to replace it with other land.

6000 new jobs and £45,000,000 every year? Bit optimistic isn't it?

Major international race tracks, like this one aspires to be, tend to grow an number of businesses around them. Silverstone for example has businesses on site and a number of specialist industries nearby. When discussing the number of jobs that might be created, it won't just be at the track itself. The intention was that it would host businesses aswell and it would be from this that the potential number of new jobs would be calculated. I would guess that the income figure takes into account revenue generated by the circuit, the industry that will build up around it and the amount of money visitors would spend in the local economy.

If it happens...

Would be nice to see it work.

But like you say, maybe,... maybe not.

Fast forward 100 odd years & this circuit in Wales will have grown in popularity and be home to some very well established twice annual races that thousands of people enjoy.

There will also be an angry little bugger named Gee Sick Vocal Minority Lunaire Jnr Jnr living right next to the fucker having recently moved in from the IOM starting about 20 threads a day on the local forum whinging about how it inconveniences him and therefore should not be allowed to continue.
