Chinahand
The attempted assassination of Trump is a heinous crime. The whole point of constitutional democratic politics is that policy changes cannot be too radical because of checks and balances and can be reversed by future administrations if that is the democratic will. Political violence destroys the trust that the system requires. American is too tribal and is losing the ability to trust across the political aisle. Political violence will only further diminish it. It is incredibly sad this is the state the US has come to. Everyone who hopes for constitutional democratic governance should condemn what has happened and dial down the polarising tribal violent political rhetoric. 6
P.K.
Most democracies exist on trust. So when the likes of Trump and Johnson take power the results are spectacularly bad for everyone....

He has created the toxic culture which has now come for him. Looks like the shooter was a registered Republican too. 6 hours ago, P.K. said: Trump incited his MAGA nutters with his "Stop The Steal" nonsense to storm the Capitol which resulted in six fatalities. And all because he just couldn't face losing the presidency. "Live by the sword..." etc. 4 hours ago, Mr. Sausages said: Who’s laughing at the assassination? I could show you videos right now of trump mocking pelosi’s husband. Trump “reminding” people of the second amendment in relation to Hilary Clinton. Fox News presenters mocking pelosi’s husband. Trump supporters openly calling for the hanging of trump’s vp. Trump telling people to “get over” shootings. The race to the bottom was a no contest. It wasn’t imagined by the democrats. I'll say it again. Setting your own level of morality at the level of the supposed orange antichrist, is not good. To an impartial spectator, you all seem just as deranged as any of the Trump supporters. Huge respect to @Chinahand for a wise comment. 3

Largely Donald J Trump and his supporters - who stormed Capitol Buildings (where 5 people ultimately died) because he was having a big baby fit about not winning the election. He is the main author of his own misfortune and crying about this and channeling anll sorts of conspiracies about it will probably get him into the White House. Moghrey Mie
'The U.S. Civilian Gun Stock Has Grown Significantly In 2022, the total number of guns produced for the U.S. market reached 494 million.' And who created that environment? This isn't the time for finger pointing. It is a time to understand people's commonalities dwarf their differences and democratic constitution means exist to allow policy making which can change and adjust over political cycles. Violence is not going to achieve this and will simply increase reactionary and tribal behaviours. Political violence within a constitutional democracy is wrong. Full stop. No ifs buts or finger pointing. Let emotions calm, look to your own behaviour and how you can contribute to creating a better political environment. Don't enable or justify those who seek to use violence.

I don’t need to look at my own behaviour thanks. Maybe Trump the adjudicated rapist and con man now has time to reflect on his. He has had a very lucky escape from the extreme effects of the toxic environment he has played a key part in creating.
thommo2010
Seeing people comment how gutted they are he wasn't killed and he deserves it really does sum up how broken society is. Might not be tye greatest presidential candidate ever but does that mean he should have had his head blown off?
