Barrie Stevens
He has a record of owning shotguns without a permit...You can have a repeater shotgun on a shotgun licence if it only fires two shots...Any more and you need a firearm certificate...Seems Mr Martin has done it again? ..It is very serious "across" to have a gun without a certificate and the more so as there was a reluctance to release him years ago as the courts & etc thought that he would do it again and that he did not feel that he had done wrong....(When he shot those pikeys)...He may well go back inside... It seems that it is a lot worse to have a gun without a permit, than it is to break into a private property intending to steel. What has gone wrong with this country? It seems that it is a lot worse to have a gun without a permit, than it is to break into a private property intending to steel. What has gone wrong with this country? The general idea is to control guns viz a viz terrorism and crime etc...Nothing to do with breaking and entering as such....Tony Martin has had guns before without a licence.... Things are so strict now...Even air guns are subject to registering at the dealer if you buy one new that is....When the law was tightened a few examples were made of people who knowingly had handguns left over from various wars.. I had one of those blank firing replicas legally on the IOM and brought it to UK only to find it is unlawful unless you have a permit and for that now you must have proven use like drama, re-enactment etc....You can keep the one you already have pre the new laws but in my case it was from IOM so was illegal to import it and that's just a blank firer...Is now in bits and pieces in several underwater locations.... There have been sentences of five years for possession of a pistol or revolver ie in one case knowing your deceased husband had a gun and not reporting it when he died. The widow goes to prison. In Scotland there have been some very severe sentences for firearms owning without a permit. Even putting an extra strong spring in an air gun can put you inside. The limit is 12 ft lbs for a rifle and 6 ft lbs for a pistol. Above that you need a fire arm certificate
