llap
Why would anyone call themselves "Prince"?
Chinahand
Because that is what his parents named him.
Chinahand
A part of my formative years has died. Loved his sound and energy ... and his dirty lyrics!
Monkey boy
One of the best songwriters of all time - not a massive fan of his but you can't deny he wrote some belters for himself and others.

ManxTaxPayer
Prince is Prince, not the prince. Or was anyway. Great songwriter.

Gladys
They are dropping like flies, my God! He could write a great tune, and I loved his sound, thought it was very edgy back in the day, only to be disappointed when he wrote for Sheena Easton. Chinahand
Yeah, but he wrote for Sinead O'Connor too ...
Tweek
That Sinead song is brilliant. Helped me through one or two tough moments.
dilligaf
Yeah, but he wrote for Sinead O'Connor too ... That was one of the best songs ever, but Prince wrote it for a band he was in called something like "The Family" I think. Off course nothing compared to the way Sinead sang it. Sorry Gladys, I can't have you slagging Sheena, Modern Girl is one of my fave songs ever (though nothing to do with the purple one)
Gladys
Not slagging her, just not a great fan having watched that talent discovery show that catapulted her to fame hosted by Esther Rantzen. I thought she was a mediocre talent with a mediocre personality.
