Gee Cee
So people were stealing the water that was set out for the competitors. The newspaper reports have pixelated the faces of the thieves, so we can't see who they are. But it is all too obvious that they were all immigrants. Europe has been ruined. The UK has been ruined, The Isle of Man must stand firm, and protect its insular values.
Bobbie Bobster
Disappointed my prediction that this topic was about the roads being closed was inaccurate.
Tweek
Good luck with that one. You'll need a time machine and have to head back to 1703. And tell people that one day the empire Britain is building, and all the people getting subjugated and robbed in their own countries will all be living here at our expense. But you won't get the chance to say it, after 10 minutes you'll be locked in a sanitarium for going on about banning horseless bicycles that can go at 220mph. Merkin
I can't see why anyone would bother to steal bottles of water; it's fuckin' free and readily available!
BigDave
Hmmm... The Daily Mail states that "a group of opportunistic thieves started stealing the bottles minutes after the front runners had passed through", however the huge number of empty water bottles at the side of the road would suggest that it was more than just a few minutes in. The volunteers manning the water station don't appear to be objecting either, nor do they look particularly distressed although at least one of them appears to be filming it. Perhaps it was actually later in the day and they just wanted it got rid of?
Amadeus
Poor Gee Cee, so new to teh internets it can't post a link. Exciting this online thingy, isn't it? http://metro.co.uk/2016/04/24/london-marathon-people-seen-taking-bottled-water-left-for-runners-from-the-side-of-the-road-5838167/ Some sources say this was after the race and people were told they could take the water. Either way, if you go into beast mode over a few pennies worth of water, you really need your head examined.
HeliX
I'm interested in how Gee Cee knows where someone was born from just looking at a video of them.
manxman1980
The Daily Mail states that "a group of opportunistic thieves started stealing the bottles minutes after the front runners had passed through", I had a look at the Daily Wail article and it contains the following statements/quotes; "Eyewitnesses say a group of opportunistic thieves started stealing the bottles minutes after the front runners had passed through." "A Deptford man caught the whole incident on camera. He said 'Just after the first lot of runners went through all the residents around the Deptford area just started looting and stealing all the water from the runners'" "A London Marathon source said the bottles were taken towards the end of the race, when only the runners at the back were passing though (sic) and no participants were deprived of water because of the incident" Article is here It appears that lazy journalism is alive and well. As someone has already said it is obvious from the pictures that this was not near the start but right at the end. There are hardly any runners around and there are loads of empty bottles lay on the side of the road. Even the Daily Wail does not blame immigrants by the way! It refers to "Deptford Residents". rmanx
Apparently it is standard for the race organisers to invite the public to take the left over water rather than it going to waste. As one former organiser stated, it was only fair as we have been blocking their pavements for the day.
Rhumsaa
The video I saw had the guy filming state that the "final coach" had been through and the only people remaining were the tail end walkers etc I suppose the way they are grabbing the water like a desperate mob and have hoards of kids carrying off loads makes the whole scene look a bit worse than the statement suggests. The cynic in me says they will be selling it off at a stall or something at knock off prices but then if the organisers are happy to move it on then what's the problem other than some rather undignified scenes? Tarne
That's what areas of London look like, urg, filthy creatures. Making London look like fecking Mogadishu. Oh well, not like we're going to do anything about it as the Europe we know crumbles under their weight.
