Food and drink festival

I think the entrance fee was for charity, Hospice???

African food, beans chicken and rice, £10 for two, fantastic! Different.

A good couple of hours entertainment, something different to do, lots of tastings. What's to complain about?

There were also some new things being launched or having some announcements to make - all with free tastings . The Dairy Shed from Andreas launching their yoghurt which is delicious, Isle of Man Teas with their range of premium teas, Leela's Kitchen with a proper display of their spice mixes and Onion Bhaji mix, Bifrost vodka which is about to be available through shops, and a good range of food stalls. We've been every year since it started , bar one when we were away. It's a good event and it is all about Manx produce. It's surprising what is produced/available on the Island!

According to a report on the Nations Propaganda Mouthpiece this morning, the 2021 Food and Drink Festival at the Villa Marina attendance figures were down 6,000 people. However according to the consultants (Marketing Partnership) the event was worth £365,000 to the local economy. Yet again an over use of external consultants, Manx or not. I didn’t think this event would beat 16,000 figure from last years attendance, which was before the COVID vaccination program came into play.

That must because 6000 people realised it was the same boring stuff year on year. The food is over priced and of poor quality and 6000 people don't like queuing for  hours on end for bad over priced beer in a plastic glass

Agreed.  We didn’t go this year for all the reasons above and nothing to do with COVID.

You forgot to mention that they charge you to get in, even if you only want to pop in for 20 minutes and grab some expensive lunch that there is then nowhere to sit to eat it, that the toilets are shocking and that it is generally just a bit crap.

Shame, as like many things it could be really good if done properly.

Should be free and spill onto the prom walkway with loads of seating around the war memorial and new cultural area if they do it again.

Oh yes. I forgot about those drawbacks. That'll put me off for a few more years.

The plastic glasses were quite nice, I kept mine!

Apparently this report into the Food and Drink Festival by consultants has recommended that the venue be moved to Knockaloe, from a survey of exhibitors. Festival goers questioned cited lack of seating, diversity of food offerings and too pricey - Source Energy FM news.

it seems that MF could have provided Government with free advice, without the need of paying external consultants.

Clare Barber, Minister of DEFA says that the Department and organisers apparently reduced the admission prices to get more people through the doors.

Knockaloe? Miles out of town and not on a bus route - and they think that would increase footfall?

Have to say, I went.  It was OK, could have done all the stands in 15 minutes.  But it was a nice day, caught up with some friends and had quite an (unexpected)  boozy day.  However, two thoughts - IOM Farmers' Market should have been there (couldn't understand why it was only craft stalls in the colonnade at a food fair) and being charged £5 a head to spend more inside was a bit rich really.
