taz8130
Hi all. I used to live & work on the IOM and I like to get back to see friends every chance I get. This time I'm looking to come back over in November to do some fishing. I'd like to come over in my Fiat Scudo van as the wife gives me grief if I use the car for my rods etc. Can anyone tell me how I go about booking with the Steam Packet Co as I seem to remember there was some sort of special declaration you request from them if you travel in a van for non-commercial reasons. Hope someone can clarify this for me.
TheTeapot
Just book it as a car online and be prepared to kick up a mental fuss if they try anything on when you're boarding.
woolley
They'll want to have a look in it, but it should be OK so long as it isn't full of stuff that's obviously for trading.
BigDave
Do not book it online. Phone them and book it as a non-commercial van. They are quite within their rights to refuse travel if you book it as a car and just turn up in a van.

I did the same when I was over some years ago with a big Ford Transit - paid much less 'cos it was for personal use, not commercial. BTW - quite surprised at the low cost of boat tickets for mobile homes in the winter months.
Tarne
The Steam packet accept vans for non commercial use, you can just give them a call. Their website really isn't the best for things slightly out of the ordinary! Enjoy it back on the island!
