llap
Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro dies aged 90 Seems like a perfect opportunity to discuss the relative merits of a communist society in terms of Cuba. Do you think, had the US not applied the Monroe Doctrine to Cuba, and in particular against Cuba, that Cuba might have been a more positive example of a communist society? I really haven't studied Cuban history much, but what I do know is that it was US foreign policy to suppress Cuba precisely because they feared that a successful communist society right at their doorstep would serve as an example throughout Latin America and elsewhere. If the people in power in the United States were so confident that communism doesn't work, why would they exert such effort to make sure it wouldn't work in Cuba? It's possible, without US aggression, Cuba could have become more democratic and become more of a socialist democracy than a communist dictatorship. Whatever one may say of Castro, whether we agree or disagree on his politics, he has to be given a high five for annoying the Americans by surviving over six hundred assassination attempts. *high five*

Shake me up Judy
Who will represent the IOM at his funeral - who would you send. Bernie? Nah, Bernie was bigger than Castro; he'd have to send a representative. We can't be bending the knee to Cuba.
