I still want to know where it's all coming from. We're still bailing out Budgets to the tune of £40M a year from reserves.
ecobob
What is this fascination with cruise ships. Pile of old dirty gas guzzling beasts that rip up our sea beds. Most of the channels run across the old queenie beds. You’ll not find many queenies in Douglas bay any more. Their habitat has been ripped to shreds. Bloody load of old shite just so some pensioners can come onshore and marvel at Douglas town centre and buy a pack of batteries from Dealz. 2 2
WTF
i wonder if the private money for this will be the same as the private money that was going to build our new ferry dock in liverpool ?

At least it will be easier for Mr Callister MHK to get on board to hand out those plastic trophies to the Captains. Just needs a felt museum at the end and a monorail to connect it to the shore.

As we are now paying Peel Groups legal fees, never mind the dross spoken in Tynwald by a Sir Humphrey, how much money are Peel group investing of their own in the Liverpool terminal ?

Probably nothing. Peel Ports want IOMSPC gone the sooner the better so they can use the Princes Landing Stage as an additional cruise liner berth . Sadly IOMG will rollover for tummy tickles, and will obey every command from both Peel Ports and LCC - if Holy Joe says jump, HRH The Chief Minister says how high, and produces an open cheque book. 1 1

mollag
Having been involved in the Tourist industry for many years, I note the following. We propose to use scarce resources on a deepwater berth for a market that is essentially the lowest level of Day tripping The market, fully catered aboard ship. Doesn't use the local Ferry service [Now Gov owned] Doesn't use the local accommodation services Doesn't use the local catering restaurants Doesn't use the local bars etc Will likely not use our retail outlets, as we know, they are expensive compared to other ports they will visit We have regular calls from cruisers presently for no outlay, so we want to spend millions to recoup thousands, ? We are, the lunatic Isle. 3 10

Scandalous.... 1

ISS
Would it not be possible to provide a cruise berth at Ramsey by upgrading Queen's Pier and providing a new berthing head. Restore the tramway with a modern multiple unit railcar to shuttle people to the promenade. Just a thought as it would mean some serious cash could be put into the pier and it could once again fulfil its original purpose.

There may very well be spinoff benefits from building this sort off facility over and above visitor spend, but there's likely to be many better ways of spending the money with greater impact.
