Deepwater for Cruise Ships

This is absolutely worth going to Orkney for.

And that's the thing.

These cruising folk need instant gratification because they are only ashore for a day at most. Less if they lunch on board (I would...)

So bearing in mind the very narrow window available what can the island offer that sets it apart from the rest of the cruise itinerary?

Face it. Not enough to justify the expenditure....

Just a quick point. Yesterday there were two small cruise ships docked end to end on the outside of the pier, and there was still a small bit of space land side.  So, if it were to be dredged a bit, could they not get one big cruise ship along side?

The breakwater would likely slide into the freshly dredged hole.

With a Zeppelin dock as well?

I've read about half the report and feel quite positive, ( about my IQ for understanding it!!! ).

Nothing about a business case so far.

Apparently may need two Tugs to help them berth, especially above Force 4 !

That's the same point that I ran out of willpower too.

However, that would seem to be a showstopper. Aside from the fact that we don't have two tugs, no cruise operators are going to use a facility where they risk getting trapped in the port and screwing up their whole itinerary.
