Perhaps you might have had more success trying to persuade the taxpayers of your own country to pay for your desired EU membership rather than trying to get the taxpayers of the UK to do your dirty work for you. Introducing corporation tax and dropping work permits would be a little step in the required direction. Interesting to see how you get on. The business pays tax in the UK. If you hate the Isle of Man so much may I suggest that there is a boat in the Morning. You can piss off to the country you love so much. The UK will fall apart long before the EU does. There will soon be a sovereign Scotland and a unified Ireland. Even the Welsh are starting to support independence from England. But sadly your buffoon of a PM is now boxed in by his need to service that Red Wall. The UK now risks being stuck for years with a sort of watered down populist socialism thanks to Britain's version of Trump. It's a big mistake Britain leaving Mrs Thatcher's Single Market. I don't hate the IOM, I love it, it means that I soon will not be paying any EU taxes even if you do, crack on dear boy, crack on paying my EU taxes for me. I cannot say whether or not it is a good thing for you or any other Manxman because you have not tried it and therefore have no database to call on. Perhaps if the IOM was to sign up to 47 years of EU membership, pay the fees, taxes, and other costs of membership whilst allowing the UK to have a free ride on the back of that I might have a different opinion. Give it a go, I'll let you know in 47 years time. My experience is 47 years membership - what is your experience of it? That is why I am calling on Manxman 1980 to form a party, advocate EU membership for IOM, pay all such taxes and costs are as entailed, let the UK have a free ride on the back of it, and then see how we feel having had that benefit - you must be up for that in all fairness surely? The IoM would never be considered for EU membership, former poster Barrie Stevens had the expression, too small to be "acquis communitaire". Bear in mind that the general IoM population has never had a say in any matters...the IoM has had to drag along on the coat tails of the UK and have EU imposed upon it; and frequently been torn between two places largely; one of the places being in the crosshairs of the EU for the taxation games played by the UK wealth, the other being its sham of independence from its real paymasters in the UK. That has not been the Island's fault, although it has been assisted inadvertently by the deluded "independence" movement/belief that still exists here and is promoted by some, doubtless to their own ends.
