Turkeys actions in Syria against the Kurds guarantees they will not be joining the EU any time soon.

You think?  The EC will be wetting itself to grab the money that Turkey has at its disposal.

"On 26 June 2018, the EU's General Affairs Council stated that "the Council notes that Turkey has been moving further away from the European Union. Turkey’s accession negotiations have therefore effectively come to a standstill and no further chapters can be considered for opening or closing and no further work towards the modernisation of the EU-Turkey Customs Union is foreseen."

"On 20 February 2019, a European parliament committee voted to suspend the accession talks, sparking criticism from the government of Turkey."

Yes...I do think

What a load of nonsense.

You seem to be conveniently forgetting that it will take only one EU head of state to say no and Turkey doesn't get in. And I'm sure there would be more than one.

It was just more brexiteer lies to get the gullible, the xenophobic and the hard of thinking to vote Leave.

Simple as.

That suspended the accession - it didn't close the door.  It even used the word suspended

Not at all.  Wheels within wheels are even more of an issue in the European Parliament than Tynwald - and my life that's saying something.

Yes, it is suspended.  Given Turkey's direction of travel do you really see this being reinstated?

Much more likely that it will remain suspended indefinitely and certainly until Erdogan leaves office.  Only once Turkey can demonstrate it meets the criteria for entry into the EU and all the member states approve will it actually happen.  It will be a long time until that happens and even if it does it is likely to be conditional and freedom of movement limited as it was for other new states when they first joined.

Bear in mind that Germany, Austria and Belgium are currently against the idea.

Turkey has a great deal to bring to the European Commission that the European Commission want and as the Euro continues to get more and more dependent on QE so the attraction of the Turkish lira will become more and more attractive and there's nothing like money to create amnesia. Moreover the number of ethnic Turks now living in Germany form a very big political force especially when combined with the number of assorted immigrants and bogus asylum seekers than now simply can't be ignored.

It takes only one member state to object...  so any of the other countries on the fence may reject the membership.

Whilst the Turkish economy has been performing well there are concerns that a downturn may not be far away given the unrest in the region.

Anyway it is all irrelevant as the discussion on Turkish accession remains suspended with no apparent calls for that to be changed.  You have swallowed Farage's lies completely on this matter.

Member states can be and have been persuaded.

AnywayFarage did not lie. What he did was to caution of the risks of Turkey joining the EU at some time in the future and he was absolutely correct.

How else do you think France and France alone kept Perfidious Albion out of the club? Farage is just a lying drinks server and you know it.

Us leaving in case Turkey joins is like living under a flight path and selling your house in case a plane drops on it i.e. a complete nonsense. And you know it.

Or you should. Keep posting on here Rog. It helps to keep what grey matter you have left ticking over...

France vetoed the UK from joining the Common Market, not the EU.

Moreover the Common Market was a trading bloc, not what has become the United States of Europe in all but name. As for your aircraft analogy - that is NO analogy.
