Some things may be a bit up or down but not noticeable in the grand scheme. It's just the completely risible idea that there will suddenly only be half as much food in the country that is continually pushed by PK. Of course there is a substantial portion of the population whose health would benefit considerably were it to happen. But there is no chance. Woody has posted that we don't need to make deals with the likes of the EU. I have pointed out that we do because they provide 40% of the food we eat. As you HAVE to eat we need to make a deal with them. Being unable to feed ourselves has been the UK's Achilles Heel for at least a century. So on that basis alone the UK is in a weak bargaining position. Of course trade will continue but as per the brexiteers try and skate over how much extra the loss of tariff free trade will cost us. Even Woody knows this hence this nonsense: 56 minutes ago, sir nige said: they don't know how much comes from the eu....its a guess......most trade deals have rolled over...... For the record "the easiest trade deals in history" are anything but. According to Woody "most trade deals have rolled over......" is just more brexiteer lies. As of the end of last week the list of those entities signed up is as follows: Kosovo (£8m of trade in 2018) Jordan (£448m in 2018) Morocco (£2.5bn in 2018) Georgia (£123m in 2018) Southern African nations (£10.2bn in 2018) Tunisia (£542m in 2018) Lebanon (£762m in 2018) South Korea (£14.8bn in 2018) Central America (£1.1bn in 2018) Andean countries (£3.4bn in 2018) Norway and Iceland (£30.6bn in 2018) Caribbean countries (£3.7bn in 2018) Pacific Islands (£163m in 2018) Liechtenstein (£146m in 2018) Israel (£4.2bn in 2018) Palestinian Authority (£41m in 2018) Switzerland (£32.4bn in 2018) The Faroe Islands (£252m in 2018) Eastern and Southern Africa (£2bn in 2018) Chile (£2bn in 2018) The more eagle-eyed among you will no doubt notice that the list is what you would call "Minor League" at best. The larger economies ie the ones we must trade with are waiting to see what arrangement the UK makes with the EU. Which no doubt they'll let us know in a month or so. Johnson's negotiating team being told to push back on NI customs checks, if true, is worrying because it seems to me that it's already starting to unravel.... The UK cannot sign any new trade deals (with anywhere in the World, not just the EU) until the transition period ends. They can be working on them and have them lined up to be signed as soon the transition period ends, so judge the Government on their deals once this time pasts. What nonsense you post. Even Liam "easiest trade deals in history" Fox went on a trade mission to Tokyo. Failed of course. Ken Clarke told him actually in the HoC that the short shrift he received might have something to do with the lack of clout the UK had outside of the EU. It's in Hansard if you want to go and look... I don't think PK is disputing that. I believe what he is trying to highlight is that the UK has not negotiated a trade deal with Japan that will come into effect after the transition period ends. In fact it would appear that Japan have very little desire to give the UK a deal similar to that which is being negotiated with the EU at present. Also how long after the 1st January 2021 will these rolled over deals last? I would assume that they are time limited in order to allow new trade deals to be negotiated.
