Yes and "knee jerk" legislation is inevitably very poor legislation.

Not inevitably and not invariably either. Sometimes prompt introduction of law, sometimes prompt rescinding of a law is precisely what is needed. Take the introduction of the ban on dangerous dogs or the ban on firearms after the Hungerford massacre.

So what happened to Johnson's "oven ready deal" then Woody?

Did reality bring it down?

Or was it just more brexit lies...?

Or more likely both.....

You've inferred that I'm driven by racism often enough old son.  I'm not, but that's never stopped you.

Now I'm not going to get into a one on one pissing contest on this forum with you or anyone.

Absolutely no need for that Roger...

Na, the UK are being dicks and the EU are being dicks. Doesn't really matter, the rich in the EU and the UK will continue to prosper. If anyone actually thinks the likes of Johnson, Gove, Barnier and von der Leyen care for anyone other than themselves and their mates then they are naive in the extreme.

No it wasn't the Withdrawal Agreement. Not at all. Which you clearly don't understand.

The “oven ready” Brexit deal, the Brexit pot noodle (“just add water” – just add bullshit), already is no more.

All of the pledges that Boris Johnson signed up to then begged the voters to please, just let him, sign and pass into law have already been tossed away. All the assurances on environmental protections, workers rights and so on and so on, have been tossed away.

It would be Michael Gove’s job to come to the despatch box of the House of Commons and explain the government’s “negotiating position” in its forthcoming trade talks with the EU. Which is to say, explain how it bears no relation to anything the voters have ever expressed an opinion on before.

Gove, of course, is the right man for the job. It is not yet four years since he gave what now stands a very serious contender for the most mendacious speech in British political history, the one where he explained how the chances of the UK leaving the EU without any kind of trade deal in place were about as likely as “Jean-Claude Juncker joining Ukip.”

Revisionism?

Johnson was talking about trade deals not the Withdrawal Agreement.

No. Really, he wasn't. He was talking about his 'oven ready' (stupid expression) WA which would 'get Brexit done' after the election  The political declaration  about a future relationship was only ever a statement of aims. The revisionism is all PK's unless you are wanting to share his load.

This is one of the problems - lack of decent info.

Johnson has set it up so there will be no debate in the HoC on "progress" or whatever you care to call it. Except for the odd flurry at PMQ's and drip-feeding what they want you to hear by totally untrustworthy greasy shysters like Gove. The sensible option is don't believe a word of it.

The BBC license fee has been put front and centre to make them tone everything down. Can't fault the logic.

Which leaves the UK rabid right wing press, which is to say pretty much all of it. At the behest of the owner they have been running down the EU for years and years. But since the referendum they seem to have slipped into reporting on an alternative reality where everything is amazingly wonderful, presumably to keep the hard of thinking on side while they can.

A classic example the other day. One of them reported an EU official saying: "No one can stop Britain..." inferring that everything will be wonderful in 2021. What he actually said was "No one can stop Britain going off a cliff....!" which has just slightly different connotations as I'm sure you'll agree...

As I said, reporting on an "alternative reality" - so who to believe?

The piece I quoted on the "oven ready deal" nonsense, which nobody sensible should have believed anyway, came from the Independent. I'm OK with that...
