I know Rog will say only mentally disabled people would think Johnson standing next to a campaign bus saying ‘let’s give money to the NHS’ would reasonably think that he intended any such thing, but was that true of all aspects of the ‘Sunny Uplands’? Flybe has cancelled all flights this evening and is rumoured to have gone bust. You’ll likely be flying to your EU hub airport on an EU airline Rog. I hope it’s Ryan Air.

So you are blaming the collapse of an airline that has been abominably managed for at least ten years and has now had the coup de grace applied by the global coronavirus pandemic on Brexit. Desperate indeed. The only influence the EU had on this was in scuppering the government bail out because until next January the UK does not have the sovereignty to disapply the air passenger duty.

Same as Monarch, FlyBMI and Thomas Cook. Just bad management, bad luck and the dastardly EUSSR. Right.

Bad stewardship in all cases, and a blind eye turned to a changing market by indifferent, outrageously rewarded management particularly in the case of Thomas Cook.

Right. Just coincidence I suppose. Just like the manufacturers.

Not even coincidence. Just that in business those who move with the trends take the rewards and build up defences for inevitable downturns. The weak go to the wall. 'Twas ever thus and certainly not invented since Brexit. You're an intelligent chap. You do not seriously believe that Thomas Cook was being run appropriately for the internet era.

They don't know it.  Their heads are buried in the sand.

As far as they are concerned they have won and that is all there is to it.

the eu have backed themselves into a corner not the uk......now they can get on building a wall they claim is needed even though it isn't.....

I am always intrigued by the EUSSR thing...  Why don't people refer to the EUSA?

Because the European Commission is fundementaly as near to being communist in its aims as makes no difference.

A decade ago, Flybe was listed on the stock market as part of an ambitious pan-European expansion plan.

The listing raised money to buy more planes, including an £850m order for 35 Embraer 175 jets to "underpin" its expansion into Western Europe.

But for years after that it struggled with overcapacity.

"They ended up putting planes on routes to use up the aeroplanes, rather than buying a fleet to fly routes effectively and successive managements battled with that burden," - Andrew Lobbenberg, analyst at HSBC aviation research
