Yep, pointless EU woody. All that business on our doorstep yet we want to trade with countries thousands of miles away. *25 million trucks/320 million tonnes of freight since it opened in 1994 Which would all happen if the EU did not exist and we traded freely with European countries. The classic misinformation of confusing "Europe" with "the EU". Business will always find a way. Brussels does not facilitate business, it inhibits it.

All that business on our doorstep yet we want to trade with countries thousands of miles away. *25 million trucks/320 million tonnes of freight since it opened in 1994 the eu can do nothing, the eu is a tiny market, the vast majority of goods coming into the uk are under wto rules... its not worth paying nearly £1 billion a week for zero return.... and you are forgetting this is the start of the process not the end....
ballaughbiker
To woody and woolley: You are both conveniently forgetting that any business approaching these levels post-brexit (which I think is highly unlikely) depends entirely on remaining in a customs union. The usual suspects won't want that as I understand it goes with free movement of EU citizens. We have all got very used to being able to drive from Ballaugh to nearly the Bosphorus without a mauling from customs at every border. I admit it's not a journey I personally do that often but you get the idea. WTO rules aren't going to help this much are they woody?
woody2
france still has border controls, the chance of more around europe gets stronger everyday.... as for the boeing case, once its gone through the usa system, they will have to prove loss to the wto, they don't make this type of craft.... eu isn't the massive market you make out, as already explained.... All that business on our doorstep yet we want to trade with countries thousands of miles away. Every day 58,000 tonnes of goods are transported via the Chunnel. If there are trade tarriffs, a likely scenario, then the Douane could turn the M20 into the biggest truck park the world has ever seen Thank goodness the MF Brexit Brains Trust already has a solution to the problem of charging the right tariff.... ballaughbiker
Thanks for the first much needed lol of the day PK. Nothing is really a problem if you never have to deal with it. That's why the french invented the gallic shrug! Hey there's another reason to leave the EU, no more having to deal with gallic shrugs.... PS Woody there are thousands of unmanned border crossings in France .
