And certainly doesn't represent the sort of comprehensive arrangement which will be needed to prevent an exodus from the City. The City is the UK’s main business, the largest source of tax revenues and investment. Being in EU but not being part of the € was the sweetspot. The best of both worlds (& Protocol 3 for the IOM). Any other arrangement will inevitably be inferior.

woody2
as for a divorce bill, this is something the eu has dreamed up with no legal backing. it was never mentioned during the referendum campaign by either side, eu can't take the uk to court over it and art50 make it possible to leave without payment... win win...... The realistic chances of retaining passporting faded ages ago. Everyone knows that isn’t going to happen. The hope over the past year or so has been for ‘equivalence’. But that depends on a good bespoke deal. And the EU has no particular real reason to offer favourable conditions - the main EU countries can probably do just as well simply taking that business for themselves. You’ll be looking at companies moving much of their business out of London. Maybe they keep an office open but with a significantly reduced staff. There isn’t actually much reason to be based in the UK post Brexit. Many of those behind Brexit understand the markets well. But they do not care where those markets are based.
