quilp
Neither country can cover their borders securely. Not without getting nasty about it.
manxman1980
I agree that Poland and Hungary have a difficult relationship with the EU for a whole host of reasons including, for Poland at least, a historic distrust of Germany. It is also a country with deep rooted race discrimination issues. The border between the Ukraine and Poland are well patrolled.

Can't see the situation escalating that far though, it wouldn't be in nato's or the EU's interests to allow it to progress. There is a deep, and growing sense of nationalist pride in Poland, Hungary and Ukraine. Let's be honest, throughout Europe, the new populism is Identity Politics. How long does Merkel have? 6 months?

I think she'll stand down. 12 years is enough for anyone, only with fresh leadership can her party win, even so it seems unlikely. If Germany lurches to the right a few notches then it's good for the anti-EU brigades.

The longer Germany waits, the more other parties and especially AfD will gain. There's a lot of resentment to her immigration policy. Germans aren't super-friendly to foreigners, you just have to look at the history of the Turkish community.
