Certainly not against what you were saying. Therefore I don't really understand your stance. I'm curious. Are you in favour of Trump's protectionism? I thought that you were all about free trade. It's confusing trying to keep up with whether you are hard left or liberal right. You seem to switch daily. It still seems as if you are dodging the soap on this one. Are you in favour of the new American protectionism or are you a free trader? mojomonkey
What about in the context of the UK and IoM, are you in favour of the new American protectionism or are you a free trader?

It's really only the US under Trump which represents a problem. Trump is a protectionist. That will ultimately damage US exports and increase costs for US importers. "Since Trump became president, the EU has focused on championing open markets and sealing trade accords with like-minded countries. It has struck deals with Japan and Mexico, and is in talks with the Mercosur bloc of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Negotiations with Australia and New Zealand are due to start in July." - https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trade-eu/europe-can-expect-only-modest-trade-deal-with-us-eu-trade-chief-idUSKCN1IP2UM The UK will never manage a trade deal with the US which includes financial services. Britain is the world's leading exporter of financial services.
woody2
japan deal isn't passed yet.... uk financial services already deal in the usa and vice versa.... aus/nw deal looks to fail because the eu don't want to include agriculture..... eu is one of the biggest exporters of metal to the usa, this is going to hurt them, not that the eu care.....

Michael Gove has made clear that Britain will not compromise food and environmental standards in pursuit of a trade deal. To do so would also undermine the agricultural sector and directly affect the UK's ability to get a deal with the EU on agriculture (the most significant market by far). Why would you care about the "eu's ability to do trade deals" (or about trade deals in general) if you are happy enough with the limited and restricted closed trade which exists outside of free trade agreements? Either you care about trade agreements or you selfishly don't.
