One thing is for sure, the only people who will truly benefit are the ones who actually control the money, and everyone else will ultimately have to cough up a little more. ballaughbiker
Let's hope that BMW, mentioned with apparent +ve trump spin yesterday, doesn't actually move any MINI production to their NL facility should there be no deal. Edit: just to be clear, that means moving some MINI production from Cowley to the existing MINI manufacturing at VDL Nedcar. P.K.
Accidentally ended up looking at some figures numbers. In the last year there have been 277,000 non-EU folks coming to the UK. Also 101,000 EU citizens which is down on previous years due, of course, to brexit uncertainty. Before the brexit-blinded play the "Migrants forced on us by the EU" nonsensical card just 21,666 were refugees seeking asylum. The others are work-placements and those here to study etc etc. Of the refugees seeking asylum 15,430 had their applications refused and were returned. Which is around the 70% mark. Ironically it seems that the shortage of EU workers has meant more non-EU migrants coming here. What a fucking HOOT that is! "Taking back control of our borders" - Errrrrr... Yeah... Right..... Another little snippet: " According to the government’s latest review on immigration, by the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), immigrants contribute more to the public purse on average than native-born Britons do. Moreover, European newcomers are the most lucrative group among them. The MAC reckons that each additional migrant from the European Economic Area (EEA) will make a total contribution to the public purse of approximately £78,000 over his or her lifetime (in 2017 prices). Last year, the average adult migrant from the EEA yielded £2,370 more for the Treasury than the average British-born adult did. Even so, the MAC recommended refining the current immigration system to remove the cap on high-skilled migrants and also said that no special treatment should be given to EU citizens." Those bloody foreigners! Coming over here with their................ work ethic. Would a brexiteer, let's face it there's enough of them on here, please explain how "taking back control of our borders" will somehow magically alter the amount of labour the country clearly has a shortfall of? Thanks.
Freggyragh
As you well know, ‘taking back control of our borders’ was only a reason to vote leave for some people. Others did it for ‘£350,000,000 a week’, ‘Merkel will bring in Sharia’, ‘Trump will give us a better trade deal’, ‘there’ll be loads of new deals and they’ll be the easiest in history’ or some other well considered reasons. Not suitable for work, minors, etc. but check out “That’s why I’m voting UKIP” on YouTube for just one example of what drove people to vote leave. P.K.
Hmmmm at least it's honest intent unlike Farage, Gove, Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Fox etc etc. I would still like one of the rabid brexiteers on MF, no shortage there then, to explain what they mean by "regaining Sovereignty" and "taking back control" because those particularly hollow soundbites have been debunked so often surely there must be some other reasons as to why they think brexit is worth doing for them? They must have their reasons. I would just like to know what they are..... Edited October 7, 2018 by P.K.
Freggyragh
You probably care so little for the colour of your passport you can’t even work out what the main benefit of Brexit is.
