the stinking enigma
Of course we will. Half the people that are running the place are english. And the other half are even worse. We will do whatever we are told. 2

If England does carry on with this religious like belief in unicorns the Manx will be thinking very hard of going along with it, should other options become available. Don’t think for a minute that the Manx have any sentimental attachment to the U.K. political establishment - if it comes down to hard economics we won’t let ourselves be dragged down by them. What Manx? A long time ago independence was looked into by Tynwald...It was not good...Also, the UK would insist on a referendum...You are not and never have been independent. The IOM cosmopolitan! All I ever heard was moans and grounds about Comeovers etc and then the Poles came and the ethnics....I can even recall MHKs demanding Comeovers be deported and then there was the licensed accommodation legislation moved by Peter Karran and that was a move to cut immigration but it was not practical and not used. The Island is only allowed to do what London approves of.

Freggyragh
The people running the place will be making decisions based on economic realities. Do you think they’d jeopardise their salaries or pensions? That’s as likely as the super-rich and the Tory toffs considering anything other than their tax liabilities.

quilp
There's definitely the possibility of unrest amongst the natives.

Can the British people ever again have confidence in whoever is at the reins of government? What is apparent is that no one - on both sides really knew what they voted for, from the bottom up... Almost nobody voted for no-deal Edited January 30, 2019 by pongo

We should not be listening to the sort of people who hint darkly at trouble. Frankly, it should never have been allowed to get to this. Nothing has changed. The reality is that those who have pushed for a scorched-earth no-deal Brexit still own this stupid mess. Eccentrics and trouble-makers. Their name is on it and they will be, quite rightly, blamed.

It was hard not to listen to the recent, media-wide coverage about the British army bolstering supplies and ammunition in the event of a no-deal brexit. Project Fear or reality? Future social unrest is probably inevitable, whatever the result, it won't please some.
