It’s a McGreggor. We all know what happened last time we had one of those.

The breezy day and it went a bit sinky?

It was just a comment on the Ships of Mann Facebook page that the one being installed is different to the one on all the renderings.

Artist’s impression. The actual link span is delivered and on site waiting installation

My understanding is we have moved away from the tried and tested floating link span that has proved successful on the Mersey for years , and opted for a hydraulic system ,   maybe this is why its going to cost so much ,  the design fees must be multi million , it would be good to see a breakdown of the initial costs ,and compare it with what is happening now , it will be £100 before its finished ,  no freight ,no winter operation  ,  no access after 10-45 in the evening  and a bloody long walk to the pier head , and liver buildings ,

But it will be shiny and that's all that matters.

The big unspoken is the on-costs.

how do they envisage staffing it?

It's still in Liverpool though! If it were in the Med it might be worth it!

Derek, they'll re-deploy all the CS they are going to get rid of.

Best put your name down? You get a hat and a hi vis tabbard!

Just four winter sailings a week out of the new terminal predicted by one of the local papers last week?

Four return sailings IOM - UK in total would be enough thought the winter.

Never mind the 13 returns that actually run.

Might get the Steam Packet back into profitability.

That totally ignores the nature of the service and origins of the Steam Packet. It’s to provide a reliable frequent service for residents. It also ignores modern supply chain logistics for shops and supermarkets.

Most of all it ignores that losses in 20/21 and 21/22 were due to exceptional circumstances that have now resolved.
