If I understand this Amendment correctly, it gives the MDC the autonomy to run up debts without firstly getting approval from Treasury and/ or Tynwald. If this is the case I am not sure that IOM taxpayers are being well served.

The Island needs more accountability not less.

Chris Thomas has sent a letter to the local press:

https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/letter-to-the-editor-heres-more-info-about-liverpool-terminal-631207

In the first sentence, he tells a taxpayer (i.e. someone who pays his salary) to RTFM, which is not particularly diplomatic.

The underlying meaning of the final sentences is not clear to me.

Except for the last sentence - that is sarcasm - my speciality (but it is unacceptable from someone being paid to represent the public).

Allinson was and is the Treasury Minister who presumably signed this off. Who were the other inner CoMin members ? Alf would be one. Names are redacted.

The reply by 'Lie Detector' below the article sums it up nicely imo.

Well, it appears I have misunderstood the purpose of the Amendment - the Amendment "extends the types of action for which MDC will have to seek Treasury approval. These include any new commitments under any debt financing arrangement or transaction or any amendments to their terms".

This may all be a storm in a tea cup. However, this is just another example of how muddled things can get if the Government is not clear and upfront with the public about what it is doing!

Chap in Norn Irn showers 'faint praise' on the IoM and then suggests IoMG might like to fund a ferry terminal for them too.

I worry this idea might be of the "Shh. Don't even mention it in case the DoI get it into their heads" variety.

A portacabin should do it!
