Nope, waves are the wrong shape, direction, frequency or altitude or some combination thereof. They had to re-enforce the dock in Liverpool at great expense. GreyWolf
Am more worried about when she gets here to be honest, will she be able to turn in strong winds in Douglas without getting severely bashed up especially at low water or will she just get marooned on the Heysham silt /sand banks expect many delays to come methinks. One of the issues no one has mentioned on here is if you look at the pictures she has no lifeboats , that means chutes will be deployed to put passengers into life rafts in an emergency evacuation for abandon ship similar arrangement as sea cat , But to comply fully with SOLAS regulations she will not obtain a full certificate , and that will effect her ability to sail in certain weather conditions , and also effect how many passengers she can carry , determined by wave height management set by the maritime and coastguard agency , who 's regulations she will operate under so like the Sea cat she will be unable to operate in poor weather conditions the Ben currently operates in which as we have seen could be for weeks during the winter , and at times with a significant number of passengers , Can we have some answers regarding this issue , and when the Edward Pier in Douglas harbour will be extended and the harbour dredged to take her deeper draught , 1

It does seem a bit last minute though, but isn’t really a big job. Edited January 31, 2023 by Asthehills

Lots of ferries now have minimal lifeboats and lots of rafts with chutes. Ben does too if I'm not mistaken?

cissolt
The steam packet chap stated that the gearbox is a bespoke unit, as is the engine. Is this normal in the ferry world? Buying bespoke suggests to me we will nespoke parts and huge bills for the next 10 years!

A £78M boat that runs on environmentally friendly fuel with a bespoke and unproven drive train because of that. What could possibly go wrong?

Bespoke means unproven and expensive to fix, and is usually a very, very bad idea for something that you need to be reliable and cheap to repair/get spares for. Hopefully if they really have gone down the bespoke route then their costings include plenty of spares.
Non-Believer
The last times somebody mentioned the word bespoke, they involved an airport radar and a diesel locomotive IIRC... 1 1
