Cue Chris Thomas to advise the public that this was all actually built into the schedule and that it and the budget are all still currently within estimates.

I think that will stick in his craw a bit. Even he will find that one hard to explain.

It's not good.

Why are announcements delegated to Gef? Minister Thomas should have made the announcement yesterday in Tynpotwald. Or does he only want to trumpet positive headlines and let another media organisation announce bad news?

They're not even delegated to Gef.  They're sneaked out on Facebook late afternoon (the only surprise is they didn't wait till Friday) and that's where Sam Turton spotted it:

More pictures have been released showing continued progress on the inside of the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal in Liverpool.

The terminal buildings, passenger facilities and land-based work are set to be completed this summer.

Currently on site, furniture is in the process of being installed, with baggage handling and security equipment installation due imminently.

Externally, the marine works continue to present challenges due to the testing environment. The pace has, however, been able pick up due to better weather, and more than 70 per cent of the scour protection has now been installed.

All marine works are estimated for completion in the autumn.

It is envisaged that staff training will get underway in January 2024.

Berthing trials will take place for the Manannan in early 2024 ahead of the vessel carrying the terminal’s first passengers at the end of March.

The Manxman will undertake berthing trials in Liverpool later in 2024 prior to the start of the winter weekend sailings schedule.

Nowhere does it make the point explicitly that it won't be in use till next year, the line appears to be that the terminal will be "completed this summer".  It's just that the dock it sits on won't be.  Which you would have thought they'd get right first.  It's taken Turton to point up the implications

You suspect that @Chris Thomas was told that they would be putting some new photos on Facebook.

I really hope that the DOI and the other ‘experts’ and our AGs office have inserted penalty clauses into the contracts? I really think that it won’t be operational after March 2024. We will have a new boat, and it won’t sail to Liverpool in the winter. Steam Packet sailings are to Liverpool during the winter, on the basis of a) new boat and b) the ferry terminal and linkspan operational. Will Mannanan operate ………….. weather permitting, or will the sailings be cancelled and those who have booked, refunded?

So it will be operational by the Autumn 2023 and it can be used by the Ben my Chree? Minister Thomas needs to get his backside up to the NPM and start putting the record straight.

You really couldn't have made all this up, the Koreans have built the Manxman and sent it on its way, despite the Finnish gearbox packing up. In the meantime, we are still wanking around with 'challenging' conditions on a minor civil engineering project! We won't see Manxman in Liverpool for over a year yet, ridiculous!

Here's an article from June 2022 stating it was expected to be completed by June 2023. The work started in 2019 (ok covid put a bit of a delay on it)

By comparison evertons new 52,000 seater stadium which started building in July 2021 is due to be completed round the same time.

So it's a year away, and pint says the phrase 'unforseen costs' will emerge during that year.

The most recent excuse, only a couple of weeks back, was the price of fuel....

With all the delays, the problems and the excessive costs imposed on the taxpayers, coupled with mismanagement of the project, I think the GMP will be absolutely furious if CM Cannan, Minister Thomas and a load of dignitaries have a ribbon opening ceremony.

Of course there will be an opening ceremony!  JPW travelled to London to have a Manx glass trinket unveiled in parliament, they don't need much of an excuse for a jolly.

Just listening to that prat (misspelt)Thomas on the NPM. Waffling on about shite, may be june next year good progress being made. Is he fucking deluded good progress would of been open 18 months ago and boats loadin and unloading, not the shower of shite we are experiencing. And oh waiting for compensation claims and the such before cost can be totaled. More like can be hidden, if the people who are running this shit show have clauses for delays and we are entitled  to compensation it will be the first time. And to be honest I would not believe one syllable uttered by the honerable ass holes.
