There have been two linkspans on Edward Pier, the first was on the south side and was built by and belonged to SPCo. That dated to approx 1983/4 to accommodate the ill fated Monas Isle. That was later removed and replaced by the IoMG owned one on the north side. That was in 1994/5 and it’s installation was tied in with the first user agreement as IoMG had wanted to control at least one ro-ro berthing ramp. Id got confused about the Victoria Pier Ramp, where the new road way pier built in 1977 was government owned but the ramp itself belonged to Manx Line and came into Steam Packet ownership on the merger. Ive a memory that the 1977 Pier/Roadway was originally known as Queen Elizabeth Pier/Quay, rather than Victoria Pier link span, but that name seems to have dropped out of use. It was clearly a separate structure before filling in of Circus Beach and infill underneath the Sea Terminal, much of which was on “stilts”.
Passing Time
looks as though he was correct. https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/steam-packet-chairman-lambasts-design-of-liverpool-ferry-terminal-241134 Building materials have increased by about 35% since Covid so why has the increase to date over 84% which will rise to 110% should they vote through the extra £10m. Nobody in government seemingly having the balls to put a brake on this

They are well known for chasing anyone who questions their ability and standard of work.
Non-Believer
That article is two years + old now, if AECOM were going to get shitty they surely would have by now?

Interestingly he says the PAC report should be published over the Summer. But does anyone think they'll stop spending and wait? Edited to add: The BBC's linked stories remind us that exactly the same thing happened almost exactly two years ago - when the cost was only supposed to be £38 million. That went well. No. There is no option in the contract to 'stop spending and wait'!. If anyone thinks holding back that contingency money is going to have any effect, dream on. It'll have to be paid. The money will have to come from somewhere.

So we entered into a contract with unlimited liability with no break clauses?
Kopek
We're stuck with it, aren't we?
Kopek
If there were get out clauses, then perhaps, in the early days they could have been used, still a loss but not as much as the overall cost!!! But someone would have had to admit to a mistake? However, Liverpools requirement for a 'cruise ship berth' still meant we would ahve lost the old Manx berth? Doesn't seem like the cruise ship berth is going to happen???
