cissolt
Did I hear Chris Thomas on the mannin line claim that the terminal will earn £1 million a year from the steam packet and as we have a 236 lease it will pay for itself in 95 years? If we own the steam packet and the terminal aren't we just paying rent from one govt entity to another? Treasury paying itself! And we wonder why govt is in such a state. 1 1

To be fair when the whole thing was started, the government didn't even own the Steam Packet[1], so the £1 million a year might have seemed like a good idea if you were ignorant of the concept of 'running costs'. [1] Discussion were from at least January 2015 according to the Report on Liverpool Landing Stage/Strategic Sea Services Agreement of July 2016 (worth a read to get the mindset of the time) and the Steam Packet wasn't purchased till May 2018. I think Chris Thomas' idea of an hour devoted to explaining all the ins and outs of the LIverpool Landing Stage is a good idea.

There might be one or two others that might not be entirely happy with the idea either. Unless they've already departed, accompanied by their big payoffs. 1

He claimed that all those responsible for the Liverpool landing stage mess had now left government, presumably meaning both politicians (likely) and civil servants (less so). But when Moulton pressed him for names he refused to give any. This is one of the real problems with the culture of Manx politics. Even those who claim to be outsiders, such as Robertshaw, won't 'tell' on any of those who have committed wrong. It's like it's some public school boy code of honour, rather than adults trying to run a country in a rational way. But without acknowledged responsibility, no one will ever learn from their mistakes.

Likely because he doesn't want to be hit with a defamation lawsuit... although what they did was massively incompetent, sadly as far as I can see it wasn't illegal. You have to pick your battles. Heysham is fine, particularly on the fast craft. Easy motorway access to anywhere, even Liverpool. Be wise to negotiate a contingency arrangement with Holyhead in case the power station at Heysham goes Chernobyl. Liverpool development was always lunacy, particularly if we were paying! Said it from the start.

Not the perfect solution I agree, but maybe something that was affordable and common sense .

If you asked the same question at £120M you would probably say Heysham was fine and put a shuttle bus on in summer
