In more aviation news, the word on the street - or perhaps more pertinently, on the taxiway - is that the London City service operated by Loganair (for BA) will be dropping the Saab 2000 to be replaced by an ATR42. Won't affect me - I never use that route as the fares are extortionate. 16 Dash 8 400 and 2 Embraers Loganair are a pain. I’m booked to Edinburgh in February. 3 weeks on from wheelchair assistance request they haven’t substantively responded. I’ve chased, they ask for different info every time. Now they state they have to contact ground handling at both Edinburgh and IoM.
woolley
Just google "dash 8 q400 landing gear problems". They have always had these issues from the start.

What does that reduce to in terms of rate per take off/landing, miles flown, planes in fleet? How does that compare to Stobart or other regional operators? Perhaps we should be asking.... why shouldn't it be 1 incident every 6 months? Every incident is one too many?
foxdaleliberationfront
This is where www.avherald.com is your friend. You can search by airline and it will bring up a whole list of incidents and accidents. Although for Flybe it includes Blue Islands and Stobarts. I had to waste £126 worth of his time once after they wouldn’t refund me that amount, having saved them several hundred.
John Wright
Thanks. I’ll soldier on. Most airlines have an auto process as you book, or immediately you get the confirmation there’s a click through. Logan you have to download and print a form, fill manually, scan and then send it back.

That will be an extra £50 to take your parachute."

I travel with Loganair and find them more customer centric than most others. But clearly they need to up their game with passengers requiring assistance.

Lets face it, it isn’t the planes. It’s airport facilities. City is crap. They have no ambulift at all. Manchester doesn’t have one that fits turboprops. Amsterdam delivered my chair to the belt rather than the airbridge, then didn’t bother putting on a wheelchair or powered unit to transfer me. Took 30 minutes. ballaughbiker
Quote Just google "dash 8 q400 landing gear problems". They have always had these issues from the start. Wot? Worse than the ATP? I think the Q400s get a lot of hammer from flying generally short sectors. ? Up to 8 or 10 take offs and landings and pressurisation cycles a day compared to bigger stuff that might do one or two a day. Seems a bit of a list on that link though. Lxxx
What's with the sudden price rises for Flybe now? Just milking the island before they decide it's time to move on? Or were the previous prices too low which contributed to them going tits up?
Derek Flint
I’ve just booked short notice to go to Liverpool. Didn’t even look at Flybe, mainly because of their tiny carry on case policy. It was also still sixty quid cheaper to fly and hire a car than using the Packet.
