Utah 01
Interesting given that the CAA decided to revoke flybe's operating licence only last month. But re-emerge under a new company name and it seems anything is possible. Did you note the ad in last week's Courier for Island-based cabin crew for Loganair? It’s not impossible, and Esken Ltd (formerly Stobart Group - name change because it’s sold the name back to the trucking business) wants out. However Stobart Air is based in Ireland, and EU rules require EU based ownership control. And I’m pretty sure that without a new AerLingus Regional franchise from 2022 ( which Stobart Air lost out on ) neither Stobart Air nor its in-house plane leasing company Proprius have much value. 1
Major Rushen
This was in CH Aviation news in Feb but nothing since. Former bmi regional exec may acquire Stobart Air - report Stobart Air (Aer Lingus Regional) ATR72-600© Aer Lingus 25.02.2021 - 03:11 UTC Ian Woodley, an aviation advisor and former bmi regional(BM, Aberdeen Dyce) executive, is reportedly in talks to acquire Aer Lingus Regional operator Stobart Air (RE, Dublin Int'l), unnamed sources have told the Irish Independent. Andy Jolly, managing director of Stobart Air, is also understood to be involved in the talks alongside Woodley, and a UK-based private equity firm would provide financing for a deal, according to the newspaper. In May 2012, Woodley led Sector Aviation Holdings, an Aberdeen-based consortium, when it bought bmi regional from IAG International Airlines Group (IAG later bought Aer Lingus in September 2015). He remained chairman and co-shareholder of the regional carrier until 2016. bmi regional eventually ceased operations in February 2019. Woodley was also founder and co-chairman of Business Air (United Kingdom) (II, Aberdeen Dyce) from 1990 to 2000. Jolly, meanwhile, was chief operating officer at Loganair (LM, Glasgow Int'l) between 2007 and 2011, then general manager of Hebridean Air Services (HBR, Cumbernauld) until 2015 when he became COO at Stobart Air before becoming its managing director in July 2019. As previously reported, UK company Esken Limited, formerly known as Stobart Group, has said it remains committed to offloading its Ireland-based production carrier Stobart Air and the affiliated Propius Leasing by the end of February. Esken is also believed to have negotiated with other potential buyers including Falko Regional Aircraft, which also owns regional carrier CityJet (WX, Dublin Int'l). However, the process will have been made more difficult since Aer Lingus named the fledgeling Emerald Airlines (Ireland) as the preferred bidder to operate Aer Lingus Regional when the existing contract that Stobart Air holds expires at the end of 2022. Stobart Air was not immediately available for comment while Esken declined to do so.

To be a self-styled Serial Entrepreneur takes money, bucket loads in most cases . Something tells me that we may now be looking at the possibility of a Manx-based airline again. Utah 01
I've never heard of him but he seems to be eminently suitable to run an airline operation based on his past experience 🤔. Good luck to him. 'Jason Scales is a serial entrepreneur that lives in the Isle of Man. He had his first business when he was only 12 Years old in the web hosting & cloud computing sectors and has been involved with the establishment and exiting of multiple businesses in the sector. Jason has also been behind the deployment of several large-scale crypto mining deployments in the Nordics and has a deep understanding of the hurdles faced by businesses operating in the Blockchain & Crypto sectors. He is an early adopter of bitcoin and various alternative currencies and is currently the Chief Executive of the Hubb, the Isle of Man's Blockchain Incubator, which involves supporting and facilitating investment into start-up or early stage businesses in the Blockchain & Crypto markets.' asitis
I'll not comment on anyones abilities or wishes to run a local airline, merely applaud them should it succeed. It is difficult however to see where any commercial strategy, that we know of, is being applied by Government in respect of airline services again. For instance having paid loganair a fortune to keep the routes open during the pandemic, which was necessary, we then welcome back the free for all that open skies brings with the return of Easyjet in May (doubtful) and now Stobart starting locally. Within the airline industry locally, I do not know of anyone who thinks open skies is a great idea, all it has succeeded in doing over many years is putting local people out of work, causing them to relocate and a general loss of revenue to the treasury. Government has lost/paid out millions over the years supporting the merry go round that is open skies, whilst painting itself into a corner in respect of the sea routes. In my view the current clean sheet of nothing happening surely gives time for a pause for a strategy that will enhance the services both for the companies concerned and the travelling public, with a degree of certainty going forward. To continue with the constant coming and going on a whim by whoever may wish to is folly imo. We need something like open skies light and imo it is better to throw money at supporting some operators than constantly picking up the pieces when all falls in a heap.
